We started our day out with a cappuccino and a croissant but then we went to meet our guide for our ‘Daylight Bologna Walking Food Tour’. If you ever go to Bologna book this tour, trust me you won’t regret it. It was informative, fun, we met some great people from the UK and Ohio… But most of all the food was SO good! It was delicioso!
Daylight Food Tour Bologna
Here is a list of the food we were able to experience:
- pasta making shop
- Coffee and pastry at Caffè Tetzi
- Rice cake (Tipica Torta di Rico
- Pizza alla Pala (Roman style)
- Salami Felino, Salami Rosa, Mortadella, Ciccioli, Culatello di Zibello, Prosciutto de Parma, Parmigiano Reggiano and Modena Balsamic
- Lasagna, Tortellini in broth, Taglietelli al ragù
- Sangiovese
- Gelato
We visited a little pasta making company, where they did everything by hand. It was an eye opening experience!

Ok.. Hands down the lasagna made the traditional Bologna way was my favorite of the day. I am going to be searching Pinterest to find a recipe because I have to make this..(and Shannon you would like this… No ricotta or cottage cheese!)
Ok… apparently I was a bit too excited to try my gelato and didn’t get a picture…but be assured that it was amazing!
Lol brief interlude: mighty Poseidon!!! Notice his trident is the Maserati logo? That’s where they got it!
Also, I guess the Cardinal was a bit intimidated by this statue’s grand baguette, so he ordered it to be snipped down. So, our sculptor’s revenge is 400 years later, we stand on the only black paving stone in the entire square to shift perspective to the left and behind to see his original vision.
