Day 16: Wrapping Up Strasbourg

Late start today. It’s getting harder to maintain the pace. If I were 4 years younger… So, the plan is breakfast, over to the cathedral for a forgotten promise, a boat ride around the city, a couple of drinks and a bite, some shopping, a break, then dinner.

Oh! This life is terrible.

We hit a little boulanger on our way to the cathedral. The smells were heavenly.

Quiche lorraine
Dude making fresh baguettes

Our plan got side tracked when the cathedral was closed for a hour, so we decided to take the opportunity to batobus around the city.

Running… Out… Of… Adjectives

Afterwards, a stroll to SuperTonic for more out those Alsacien gin & tonics.

Lol the place mats are hilarious
Fancy gor-met sausages… Mine is across the table, full of Munster cheese on a bed of onion jam. Legit.

Alsace Museum

Any guesses as to what the English name of this game is?

After, we hit the cathedral. Now there’s a legend about some Cardinal 300 years ago giving sermons with his puppy sitting and listening in on every one. And like Seymour, when the side died, they let the pup stay and listen, hoping his dad would show up 😭

So when the pup finally gave up waiting, to join pops in heaven, they made a little statue of him at the foot of the steps to the oratory. Just a note as to the original less embellished story: (It depicts the time when Geiler of Kaysersberg came to preach on this pulpit, accompanied by his dog.He preached long, earnest sermons-so long that his pet dog, who accompanied him everywhere, would fall asleep. Here, right here, is that dog, still sleeping.)

The trick is to find him, pat him on the head, and make a wish for someone else (that doesn’t involve money).

So that’s where we went, and why. Here’s Seymour.

I read about this amazing night mode on my phone, and it really paid off inside the cathedral. There are places that are pitch black, way up in the rafters, that you can’t see… That maybe haven’t been seen by humans in hundreds of years…But the phone can show us!

This is amazing. The gold was barely visible, and the dome was pitch black.
Glorious clock again

Next was shopping, and chocolate goodies for people back home.

Reservations at Pont au Corbeau in an hour. We’ll talk about that in a bit, I’m sure.

Lies. We dipped into our last bottle of Cremant, and went across the street to Meteor bar. It’s new, just opened last month, and is loud, energetic, packed full of people, and an amazing place!

Cheryl has the Cremant with strawberries and red beer mix, I had their home made nitro stout.
Another frashizzle (flamkuchen)
Cheryl: salmon on top of white wine sauerkraut… Soaked in a cream sauce… And a puffed pastry
Mike: pig knuckle besides in red wine and potatoes. The crunchy skin was a complete contrast to the tender pork inside.

Strasbourg, we will miss you.
