Day 14: Sunny Day in Strasbourg, France

We caught the one and only train to Strasbourg from Colmar for the day. All other trains were canceled due to the strike.

Arrival: A short walk to our apartment brought us around the back of a mid-sized church, where we ascended 3 flights of stairs to this lovely view

We were worried about the bells tolling hourly, but they only peal on Sundays, and when they have funerals

Refreshed, it was breakfast time. Again, we accidentally stumbled into a cafe that was in the top recommendations list from Trip Advisor

Outside the Grand Rue
I had hot chocolate!

The place was filled with whackadoodle art

Fat ladies fly

What we choose not to have, though, were the desserts

Look at the cheesecake. There’s a pool of strawberry goo, and cream… And the pies had merangue on top!It all looked killer.

This was around the corner

We hit the Christmas market under the massive cathedral

Did I mention the cathedral dominates everything around it?

From there, we rolled out to the largest market in Europe, about 1/2 mile from the cathedral. It was huge, and more more more food and Christmas stuff. We wandered up and down the four 1/4 mile rows until we were exhausted.

Strasbourg

Over the course of 4 hours, we walked the whole island and had:

really good gin and tonic, with local tonic and local gin
some Christmas cookies and a hot chocolate with amaretto!!!
A flamkuchen paired with a flambier (Belgian ale with a twist: dude poured triple Sec into a glass, lit it on fire, and poured the beer in)
A Christmas mojito, with rum!
oh oh some kind of open-qfaced grilled cheese with plum preserves and crunchy thick bread.
A pisco sour, hidden away in the back of a pizza joint… Totally a speakeasy ambiance to this place

I got tested for fitness for office…

I could pass between the pole and the wall, so I am not barred from public office!
The river that surrounds the city, all lit Up
The campanile lights up like the Eiffel tower!

This whole place sparkles at night

The purple globes really contrast beautifully with the green
Christmas stalls for scale lol this tree makes me smile even now!

So we wobbled back to our place to prep for tomorrow
